Sir,
I am just back from a turn down to my favourite beaches at Macharioch near Southend. I was astonished and saddened that someone had seen fit, during last month, to deface one of the beautiful large rocks, on the beach, with a list of names, each at least six inches in size, chipped deeply into the surface.
I found it hard to understand why anyone would think it appropriate to deface beautiful natural rocks, which have been there for millennia and which have given endless peace and pleasure to so many.
