TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT
Open Ente Auth on the search bar every time
I’ve been impressed so far with Ente Auth (www.snipca. com/55931), which I installed on my Android phone after it won Gold in your review of authenticator apps (Issue 717, page 62). It has a decent number of useful settings which I’m surprised aren’t turned on by default.
One of these always shows the search bar when you first open the app, meaning you don’t need to tap to access it. This is handy if you need to quickly find your codes.
To turn it on, tap the top-left horizontal lines then General and turn on the ‘Focus search on app start’ slider so it turns purple. I can’t take a screenshot of that because Ente forbids it, presumably for security reasons. That makes sense.
There’s no ‘save’ option to confirm this change, so you need to ‘force stop’ the app instead. On Android, open Settings, then tap Apps and select Ente Auth. Now tap ‘Force stop’ (see screenshot) followed by OK. Launch the app again and it should open at the search bar.
