We wanted to do something epic,” says James Goss, producer of Time Lord Victorious and writer of the upcoming Daleks! animation. While the Doctor Who licensees were busy creating their own Time Lord Victorious story strands in comics, novels, on audio and even on t-shirts, Doctor Who’s digital team at BBC Studios was having conversations with James about how it could contribute to the multi-platform narrative.
“Luke Spillane [Doctor Who digital marketing manager] has always wanted to do some exclusive video content,” says James. “We initially spoke about doing some small snippets of Dalek content in diff erent styles - a tribute to 60s Dalekmania, photorealistic, black and white, as though from a missing William Hartnell story. But it became apparent that there was an appetite to do something bigger. Quite a lot bigger.
