Drama & Theatre Autumn 2 offers career inspiration for students in an area they may not have considered: the wealth of jobs for both performers and designers or technicians in the circus sector. We also visit the new Polka Theatre in Wimbledon – a children’s venue which has had a complete makeover and now reopened to the public; and we meet theatre company Told by an Idiot as they take their Get Happy tour around the UK.
Theatres across the country have in recent years instituted Youth Advisory Boards which give groups of young people direct power to change their local venue for the next generation, and we look at a few of those who are doing so and meet some of their Youth Board members. We also introduce an initiative from the ABTT which encourages students to come up with theatre design ideas and submit them to an online platform.
Our Practitioner Focus this issue is on Angelique Rockas – a pioneer of race-blind casting in the UK, and there are exercises inspired by her work, as well as a Teaching Strategy page on using Drama for PSHE; and the usual wealth of book, play text and resource reviews.
