Exercising to upbeat music could make vigorous workouts seem easier, especially if you’re less active to start with. A group of 24 people who weren’t meeting exercise guidelines, and were inexperienced at high intensity interval training (HIIT), took part in a 10-minute HIIT workout without music, then another with fast-tempo music. They reported greater enjoyment after the session with music – and had an increased heart rate. The study concluded music not only helped the participants enjoy their HIIT workout more, but it also helped them to work harder physically.
