Ubuntu 24.10
Les Pounder has been using Ubuntu for nearly 20 years, but could this anniversary edition change his mind about running it on the Pi?
Celebrating 20 years of Ubuntu, 24.10 takes us back to the brown days before aubergine and orange became the Ubuntu colours.
IN BRIEF
Ubuntu 24.10 for the Raspberry Pi 5 looks great, but feels sluggish and only offers nine months of support. It’s a great desktop OS, but this is not the OS for makers. Ubuntu 24.04 would be the better choice right now if you really need Ubuntu on a Pi. If not, then Raspberry Pi OS will do everything you need.
Ubuntu 24.10 is the first interim
release since 24.04, and in the past
six months, 24.04 has improved
from what was initially released. Ubuntu
24.10 offers a newer kernel (6.11.0) and a few
refinements such as Gnome 47, Mutter and
an improved app store. But is it any better
than Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for our 4GB Pi 5?
