The island of Sanday’s first road opened this week.
The three-metre-wide, mile-and-a-half-long road replaces a rough track that was covered by water at high tide and will allow vehicles to access Sanday, which is connected by a bridge to the neighbouring isle of Canna. Isle of Canna Community Development Trust, along with the owners of the two islands, the National Trust for Scotland, helped raise more than £31,400 through a crowdfunding campaign for the construction of the route.
