THIRTY-TWO young people from Portree and Plockton took part in this year’s residential ‘Seachdain nan Deugairean’ at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the national centre for Gaelic language and culture in Sleat, Skye.
The event, organised in partnership with Highland Council’s Gaelic team and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, involved Gaelic fluent speakers and learner pupils. The young people took part in various workshops, including drama, creative writing and media skills, and outdoor educational activities.
Archie Maclean, depute director of studies at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, said: ‘We are delighted to be involved in the delivery of this important event in partnership with the Highland Council and with support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig. It is a wonderful opportunity for the teenagers to participate in activities through the medium of Gaelic and to use the language outwith the classroom. It also adds to their confidence in using the language socially and makes them aware of future opportunities available in Gaelic.’
