ATHLETICS
Lochaber Athletic Club runner Finlay Wild broke yet another record at the recent David Shepherd Memorial Glamaig Hill Race, his seventh win in a row at the Isle of Skye event. Wild, having set a time of 44 minutes and 22 seconds, was not the only record breaker on the hill on Saturday July 7 as the fastest woman, Jill Stephen, crossed the finish line in a record time of 56 minutes and nine seconds.
The race, which starts at Sligichan Hotel on Skye, sees competitors ascend 2,500ft over a gruelling 4.3 miles. This year also saw a record number of racers take to the mountain after 199 runners finished the notorious hill race, which is known as one of the toughest races in Scottish hill-running. Lochaber AC’s Richard MacLeod also put in a good time at Glamaig, squeezing into the top 10 finishers. Amanda Blackhall was the fastest Lochaber woman, finishing in 82nd place.
