Na h-Eileanan an Iar MP Angus MacNeil has contacted the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) to find out why first responder teams were not called to assist at local incidents as in the past.
The trained volunteers are usually dispatched by an ambulance control centre to calls in their local area to help until the ambulance arrives. However, the Carloway First Responders have received only one callout from the SAS in the last year. The team, which has been operating in the area for 10 years, had previously assisted with 40- 50 incidents a year.
Mr MacNeil said: ‘First responders provide valuable medical assistance and reassurance to those waiting for the arrival of an ambulance.’
