ROSS, Skye and Lochaber MP and leader of the SNP Group in Westminster, Ian Blackford, has launched a petition pressurising the Royal Bank of Scotland into reversing its decision to close local branches, including those in Mallaig and Kyle.
Mr Blackford this week also urged Prime Minister Theresa May to step in to prevent the banking giant from closing 62 branches across the UK.
In his letter to Mrs May, Mr Blackford said she must stand up for communities across Scotland who face losing their last bank. He told the Lochaber Times: ‘Thirteen Scottish towns are about to lose their only bank. The Prime Minister is so out of touch she is unaware of how these closures will hit rural communities. There was no consultation with local communities ahead of this decision being taken, highlighting a complete lack of customer care.’
