The letter from the keen sea angler (The Oban Times, July 19) concerning the topic of disappearing fish could have been written by one of the endangered common seals living near my home on a quiet loch in Argyll.
The difference, which is vast indeed, is that the seal needs those fish to survive, while we human animals can simply pop into a local superemarket, fill up on cheap food in plastic packaging then toss whatever we don’t need casually into a bin which will, most likely, end up in the sea – polluting the waters that many an endangered species depend on for life.
It baffles me that we, the human species, can’t seem to grasp the urgency to change our habits - habits we cling to because it is just too inconvenient to go without the plastic bottle, plastic straw, plastic bags.
