If you already swim regularly, the chances are your fitness, endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular health are pretty good. Whilst regular running carries similar benefits, it has one crucial difference: the muscle and bone strength which comes from a load bearing activity. This is important for all of us as our bone density decreases as we age, in particular for women. Even if you don’t fancy swimrun a little bit of running can make a huge difference to your overall long-term health.
However, many of us have hang ups about running (see Running Myth Buster). We shouldn’t. Remember, we all toddled our way from crawling to running as children and so our bodies have the know-how to run. The challenge in re-finding a love of running is switching our overthinking adult brains from “can’t run” to “can’t run yet”.
