Last month we asked you, the readers of Outdoor Swimmer magazine, to send us your nominations for your unsung swimming heroes. Whether it was a member of your club or group who works tirelessly behind the scenes, a swimmer who inspires you on to greater things, a campaigner, an inspiring coach, or even your group’s best baker, we wanted to celebrate the people who make a difference to your outdoor swimming world and who deserve their contribution to be shared with our readers.
Thanks to you, our inbox was inundated with nominations – which goes to show how vibrant the outdoor swimming community is and how many amazing people there are whose passion for outdoor swimming is making a real difference to the lives of the people they swim with.
Due to the sheer volume of nominations we recieved, many brilliant nominees didn’t quite make the final cut. Those that don’t feature, but who derserve a special mention, include Roger Mowbray, who was nominated by David Majarich for walking a 10-mile round trip each day to swim at King Edwards’ Bay in Tynemouth and for always having a smile on his face. Roger regularly helps to clean the beach and believes he has walked the equivalent of John O’Groats to Land’s End 29 times from his home to the beach.
