HAYLING Light Railway’s (HLR) Alan Keef Ltd AK11/1984, recently donated to the line by Thorpe Park Resort (RM, April), will be rebuilt by its original manufacturer in the same steam-outline diesel style as the similar Jack which Keef’s built in 1988 for the HLR’s predecessor at Hayling Island’s Mill Rythe Holiday Camp, and which remains in service at HLR. The loco should enter HLR service by September, with a name and livery yet to be announced.
Although it had been thought AK11/1984 only ever operated at Thorpe Park, it has now emerged that it worked at the Lynbarn Railway in Devon during August and September 2002 when that line’s AK12 Sir George was undergoing repairs.
