COLLECTING MENTAL POSTCARDS
Adam Batty recalls snapshots of a weekend full of off-road adventure and suggests that you should do the same…
WORDS, PHOTOGRAPHY & DOODLES ADAM BATTY
When we look back on adventures, we do so through mini snapshots. Mental postcards of a moment in time. Still images. Normally with a rose-coloured tint.
We pick out the favourite bits from the bin and pop ourselves back there for a brief second. Scraping off the inconvenience, stress or bad smells that might have been present in reality to create a finely crafted memory postcard. It’s amazing how many postcards like this we’ve all got stored up there in our memory cabinet. To help on rainy days. When struggling to get to sleep. Or when bragging at the pub.
I’ve been looking back on my most recent collection of mental postcards. It took a while to figure out the mechanics of getting the cable in, but I’ve downloaded some memories just for you. A perfectly curated selection of the most recent additions to my collection. Postcards in their rawest form. With semi-accurate reflections and feelings that have yet to be chipped away and polished in the fondness foundry. The rough edges have yet to be ground off and they remain in their natural pre rose-tinted state.
