Do you want t0 keep this scrap of paper or shall I throw it in the bin?’ Words often heard in our house and, I suspect, in the houses of writers all over. The very idea of paper and bin used in the same sentence has been known to send shivers down the spine, because more often than not, the scrap of paper is more than that; it’s the nugget of an idea, an unformed written rambling, a hastily-scribbled morsel of thought plucked our of the brain for later review, a… well, you get the idea.
