Turning POINTS
Margaret James urges you to pay attention to the key moments in your stories where you create change and transformation
It’s a lovely feeling when everything in the first draft of your novel-in-progress is jogging along nicely. You and your characters know where you’re going, and how you are all going to get there – more or less. Maybe there’s also an actual ending in sight? But perhaps everything is starting to look a little too obvious, as well?
A bit too vanilla?
Maybe checking out your storyline reveals there might be a risk your potential readers could even get so comfortable that they start falling asleep?
How could you liven things up, and keep them wide awake?
There are plenty of possibilities.
Shocks, surprises, revelations, choices, mistakes – introducing any of these could add up to a turning point in your story, when something happens that might surprise even you.
