The healing power of dogs
I’ve always suffered with depression, anxiety, and a borderline personality disorder, and having a little four-legged companion helps me cope with day-to-day life.
I had my first Yorkie, Dinky, from an eight-week-old puppy and we were never apart. He even came away on holidays with me and my boyfriend, Mark, to the Lake District, which he loved!
He would always know when my moods were particularly low, as he’d stay by me in bed and wouldn’t leave my side.
Dinky used to suffer from mini strokes (transient ischaemic attacks), but without any lasting effects. We had 14 happy and healthy years together, but in the last six months, Dinky developed a lump, so we had it removed as it was most likely a mast cell tumour. After the operation, he seemed to age all his fourteen-and-a-half years.
