Guitar hero
Your ‘Summon a six-string’ macro feature in
Photo Active
in the September issue (298) caught my eye because I have an ongoing project to create a photo book with pictures of all the guitars in my house. The attached photograph, of a Squier Precision Bass guitar, titled ‘Precision Reflections’, is neither a six-string nor taken with a macro lens. I have always liked the way the knurled finish on the control knobs reflects on the scratch plate and body, so I used natural window light and one LED lamp to get the strongest reflection possible and used my Nikkor 40mm f/2 prime lens, with a minimum focus distance comparable to a macro lens, to get close to the guitar. An f/6.3 aperture kept the scratch plate crisp against the blurred bridge.
