DJI dropped ‘Mavic’ from the Mini 2’s name, but it’s the replacement for the original DJI Mavic Mini. Like the Mavic Mini, the Mini 2 weighs less than 250g, which means you have more freedom to fly them than heavier drones. However, as it has a camera on board, in the UK the pilot still needs to register the Mini 2 with the CAA and obtain a flyer ID – which involves paying £9 annually and passing a simple online test. With that done, bar a few exclusions zones, you are free to fly pretty much where you like, provided that you have permission from the landowner to take off and land.
