Rode Wireless Go II
Is the dual-channel upgrade as easy to use as Rode’s original tiny wireless microphone system? Angela Nicholson investigates
Price: from £279/$299
Separate parts There are three main parts to the Wireless Go II: the receiver that connects to your camera or audio recorder, and two transmitters that are clipped on the talent to pick up the audio
Clip-on Each unit in the kit has a clip – these enable the receiver to be mounted on a camera hotshoe (or clipped on to a camera strap) and the transmitters to clip onto clothing
Mic options Each transmitter has a microphone built in but there’s also a 3.5mm port on each to connect an external microphone if you prefer to use a small lav mic
Thanks to its small size, ease of use and attractive price, Rode’s original Wireless Go microphone system proved incredibly popular. Now the Wireless Go II has been introduced to sit alongside the original, offering much greater range (200m by line of sight instead of 70m) and dualchannel recording that means you can capture two sides of a conversation. With that in mind, the Wireless Go II comes with two transmitters rather than one, which goes some way to justifying the price difference (the Wireless Go retails for around £160/$199).
