5 steps to predictable prints
While many photographers, ourselves included, have reduced the number of prints we make, citing cost and convenience, a printed image still has an unparalleled ability to inspire. Prints can create an emotional reaction in the audience that a digital image can sometimes struggle to conjure.
For this reason, it is a great idea to ensure we are doing all we can to streamline our printing process, to make it as efficient and effective as possible. Boiled down to a three-point approach, this process consists of reducing waste, choosing the right materials and improving consistency. To achieve the greatest satisfaction with our printed products, it is important to be able to predict how an image will look when reproduced on different media, using different hardware. Much of the frustration surrounding printing is due to the variance in colour, contrast and sharpness, relative to the digital file.
