LEVEL OF ABSTRACTION
In this photograph, the people are viewed as silhouettes and remain anonymous, which is crucial to the effect of the image. “If the people were identifiable, the photo would lose some of its mystery and impact,” William says. To convey this feeling, he kept the degree of abstraction in check by not further obscuring the figures with long exposure times. “I kept a high enough shutter speed to avoid blurring the subjects while keeping dry in a downpour,” he explains.
