Editor’s letter
Queer people have always been here. You know that as I know that, in my soul and in my bones. We know it because we understand that diversity is an inevitable, wonderful facet of humanity, that identity is an expansive, rainbow-hued spectrum, and that people loving people of different genders is not only entirely natural, it is utterly glorious.
We also know that LGBTQIA folks are nothing new because our LGBTQIA ancestors recorded their stories so that we might one day find them. Like tortured poet Sappho, who penned odes to beautiful women in Ancient Greece, and “first modern lesbian” Anne Lister who, in the pages of her 19th century diaries, described her horny shenanigans in graphic and undeniably gay detail. We are a creative (sometimes lovesick, often randy) bunch with a long and fascinating lineage.
