”I now selfidentify as hilarious”
On 1 April 2017, after 10 long years carving out a career in the mainstream music biz, I publicly announced the second biggest change of my life. As a trans woman at 29 years old (four years public), I finally came out… as a stand-up comedian. I now self-identify as hilarious.
I chose 1 April for the comic/cosmic irony. Many (including my father) still think it’s an elaborate year-long April Fool’s prank. Here’s the best part about that: if I really am doing an Andy Kaufman/Joaquin Phoenix but I turn out to be utterly shit at comedy, I can always retroactively claim that it was all a big joke – with the ultimate metaphysical punchline. Music and comedy are totally different fields. Especially for a woman.
