When I was 13, the teacher had left the classroom for a moment, and bullies were drawing a stick figure of my face, with a moustache and beard, onto the whiteboard, taunting and mocking me. Everyone was laughing. I wished I could have stood up and told them to stop, but burning with shame I just held my head down. The teacher came back in, the noise and laughter stopped, and the bullies jumped back into their seats. I thought the teacher would say something, but without a word he just wiped the board clear and began the lesson.
