The Five-ish Doctors Reboot, the 2013 spoof writtenand directed by Peter Davison, was one of the highlights of the series’ 50th-anniversary celebrations. I particularly like the sequence where Davison, supposedly desperate to reprise his role as the Fifth Doctor in a forthcoming anniversary episode, calls the production office for the umpteenth time in an effort to lobby showrunner Steven Moffat. The phone is answered by a long-suffering production assistant, who reluctantly calls her boss. Moffat is too busy to talk to Davison. He explains he’s in a meeting – but as the camera pulls back it’s revealed that he’s engrossed in manoeuvring action figures of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors around his desk. Behind the figures are other items from Character Options’ range of Doctor Who toys – aTARDIS in perfect scale to the figures, and a full-size replica of the sonic screwdriver. Moments later Moffat calls the office back, saying, “Make sure we are not disturbed for the rest of the day.”
