Aspecial four-figure mini-wave was released in 2010 to celebrate this two-part finale for David Tennant’s Doctor – which was also a farewell for showrunner Russell T Davies. The commemorative collection was issued in distinctive ‘regeneration’ packaging, bearing the faces of both the outgoing Doctor and the new incarnation making his debut here. There was a ‘battered’ version of the Tenth Doctor, reflecting his condition after having fallen to Earth from high orbit, which featured a new head sculpt with a different hairstyle to previous Tenth Doctor figures. Plus, there was a ‘regeneration’ version of the Eleventh Doctor sporting a Matt Smith head on top of a David Tennant body.
Also included in the wave was the Narrator – actually a figure of Rassilon, the Lord President of the Time Lords, complete with staff accessory. Rassilon had been credited as the Narrator in the episode’s script to preserve the surprise of his identity – but the cat was out of the bag by the time these toys came to be released. Rounding off the collection was a new version of the Master as he appeared in this story – with a black hoodie and bleached blond hair.
