As far as Mythmatch’s Greek legends are concerned, Artemis is not yet the goddess of the hunt; she’s still trying to prove herself to receive such divine responsibility. And her ascent to Olympus is frustratingly elusive, not least next to the experience of twin brother Apollo, who’s waved inside without a second thought. It’s a pointed example of gatekeeping, made literal as this immortal realm resembles the lobby of a fashionable tech company, with a lift that denies Artemis access to every floor – not quite the warm welcome you might expect in an ostensibly cosy community sim.
The community building in fact happens in the mortal realm, once you’re unceremoniously booted down to the island town of Ithaca, its population of women fending for themselves while the men are off fighting the Trojan War. As would-be goddess of the hunt, Artemis is associated with vegetation and wild animals, and her bow and arrow functions like a hookshot to gather such materials, with three of the same merging to craft a new item. Some merges follow simple logic – branches become logs become planks – while others are more abstract, such as three beetles making a raccoon that unblocks a path. By helping the mortals with your match-three skills, you help increase belief in the gods, whose favour Artemis is hoping to gain.
