Dungeon Encounters Switch Square Enix could hardly have made less noise about the new RPG from Hiroyuki Ito, creator of the Active Time Battle system and director of Final Fantasy VI, IX and XII; indeed, the game’s budget can’t have been much higher than its marketing spend. Yet this appears to be a masterclass in streamlined design. Ito’s spartan dungeoncrawler pares back the fluff, offering an absorbing and deeply tactical descent through a labyrinth represented by squares and numbers on weathered parchment – allowing your imagination to fill the gaps as your party steadily colours in those blank spaces.
