N ick Kaman, studio head and art director at Aggro Crab, says that he’s had the concept for the studio’s second major release floating around in his head for six years. Indeed, the inability to make Another Crab’s Treasure when they started out in game development partly informed the team’s crustacean moniker. “I just really like crabs,” he offers by way of explanation. “There’s Seattle,” he says, referring to the studio’s home. “There’s the beach. There’s the Puget Sound. And when I was a kid, my mom would take me to the beach and we’d flip rocks and find crabs.”
That sense of childlike discovery is at the heart of Another Crab’s Treasure, though since you’re cast as a diminutive decapod and most other sea creatures are rather keen to pick on you, the sight of a rival burrowing up from the sand or emerging from between fronds of seaweed isn’t necessarily one you’ll welcome. But, as a hermit crab, you have an unlikely defence against these aquatic opponents: discarded human detritus, from bottle tops to tin cans, can be picked up and equipped as a shell, giving you an extra layer of protection.
