Ron Perlman
THE FORMER HELLBOY ON ONE HELL OF A CAREER
WORDS CHRIS HEWITT
RON PERLMAN HAS something to declare. “You know, it’s funny,” he tells Empire. “If you send me to the store with a list of things you need for me to get, I’ll show up two weeks later and say, ‘Sorry, I got lost.’ But in this business of acting, I remember everything.” That’s something we’re about to put to the test as we take Perlman, the grizzly character actor who’s made such a memorable impact in a multitude of movies (often working with Guillermo del Toro) over the last 40-odd years, down memory lane ahead of the release of his latest, Jack Huston’s directorial debut, Day Of The Fight. And, true to his word, he delivers.
SECONDS OUT DAY OF THE FIGHT(2025)
“I’ve not seen this particular image before. I’d like to do a screenshot of it. (He does so) This is a beautiful film, something I’m really proud to have participated in, watching a friend of mine, Jack Huston, emerge as a writer and filmmaker. I only worked on it for three days. If there was anything written out for me to say to Mikey [Michael Pitt] during the fight, maybe it was a line or two. It’s pretty much all improvised. We shot the whole fight sequence in a day-and-a-half. I think Scorsese had eight weeks to just do the fight stuff on Raging Bull.”
