Can one person really make a difference? Carrie Cort certainly proves you can, as her dedication to create a better planet and encourage eco-friendly lifestyles grabbed the attention and efforts of her county, leading to the creation of the Sussex Green Living Network. It all started in 2008, when Carrie became a mum and was increasingly concerned about the Earth and her son’s future. “I started getting depressed about climate change, so I set up the group in 2012. It was my night job whilst working three days as a director of a family run business with a four year old son. In 2014, I exited the corporate world to follow my passion and heart. I am a mum on a mission and an unstoppable mission at that!”
“I had three lightbulb moments which inspired me into action,” says Carrie. “I listened to a talk by an inspirational environmentalist and solutionist Nicola Peel, who lives in the next village to me, and we have subsequently become good friends and work together on climate action projects. Then, I watched The Age of Stupid, a dramadocumentary- animation hybrid starring Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, watching archive footage from 2008, and asking why climate change wasn’t stopped before it was too late. It is a totally thought-provoking documentary and a must for anyone to watch.”
