TTG heads to a galaxy far, far away to see whether the Force really is with the Rebel Alliance, or if the power of the dark side can clinch it for the Empire
The layout at the close of the first turn.

The X-Wing Miniatures Game is Fantasy Flight Games’ fast-paced dogfighting game set in the Star Wars universe. It’s a tactical ship-to-ship combat game where players take control of powerful Rebel X-Wings and nimble Imperial TIE (twin ion engine) fighters, facing off in high-speed space combat.

For this issue’s battle report, Tim Harris, global sales manager for Plastic Soldier Company, squared up to gamer Steve Blackwell at the Battlefield Hobbies games store in Daventry.

Whichever vessels you choose, the rules of X-Wing are geared up for quick and intuitive gameplay. The action centres around the piloting dials – unique to each ship type -which players use to secretly select a speed and manoeuvre each turn. After planning manoeuvres, each ship's dial is revealed and executed (starting with the lowest-skilled pilot), so you're in complete control throughout – the challenge being that you have no idea what manoeuvres your opponent has planned!

After each pilot is activated and manoeuvres and actions (dictated by each ship’s card) have been carried out, the ships move into combat and perform one attack move each, starting with the pilot with the highest skill level.
