Georgiana Chu My Little Garden, watercolour, 16*12in (40.5*30.5cm)
Georgiana has painted with watercolours since her early twenties, but a career and raising a family meant that painting became an intermittent pastime until retirement enabled her to return to her hobby more fully. She writes: ‘I have been learning from the work of the masters through gallery visits, books and the internet. Art is about discovering, understanding, appreciating, collecting and expressing passion about beauty. The discovery of beauty in a subject evokes a union between passion and reason, giving birth to a composition that seeks to bring to light the impressiveness of the subject. By the use of contrast of light and shade, the main subject can be anchored at the heart of the painting, like the lead dancer in a troupe of accompanying shades of colour, variations of shapes and rhythms of brushstrokes.
