Publishing your own book can seem a daunting task, and without appropriate planning be a very time consuming and expensive disaster (see my budget plan below). Firstly, decide why you want to commit to print. Is it to catalogue a lifetime’s work, to promote your art to a larger audience, to generate profit from sales, or a combination of any of the above? Factors that will have an impact on overall costs are size, format, the number of colour and black-and-white illustrations, text, number of pages, paper quality, hard or soft cover, a dust sleeve, bar code, print run, packaging and marketing/distribution.
