When small, waiting in December for Christmas seemed half a lifetime and in winter, the summer seemed aeons away. Nowadays, not only do Easter eggs arrive on supermarket shelves before New Year, personal time seems to race through days, weeks and years like the Starship Enterprise in warp drive. Only yesterday I was 17, or, as my husband says, ‘You no sooner put the bins out, than it’s Tuesday again’.
