Racing can so quickly go wrong, and usually, the punishment really doesn’t fit the crime. So, let me take you to Saturday morning of Silverstone. It’s the final round of BSB to choose the title fighters.
I’m currently eighth in the standings but the vital sixth position slot is a meagre 20 points away with three races coming up. Throughout Friday and the Saturday morning things had been going just wonderful to be honest. We were on the Silverstone ‘Indy’ track (which was actually pretty cool but very much lacking in technicality) and I’ve always enjoyed Silverstone as my noble steed had always been up there in the time sheets. I’d progressed nicely through the first stage of qualifying and was on a lap about to put me through to the top eight shootout for pole. Conditions had been a bit iffy but as is always the case with BSB, the pace was scorchio so anything other than pushing hard wasn’t an option; but I felt comfortable at the pace I was running but with just a corner to go before the end of qualifying I just tapped that throttle on a millisecond too soon and I was dumped off my steed. So, the punishment didn’t fit the crime.
