ALWAS THE JOKER!

He’s a man who has wowed and divided opinion in equal Measure since he first hit Moto GP in 2013. Now, in his fifth premier class season, is Marc Marquez still ajoker?

Thank whom ever for Marc Marquez entering Moto GP –be that your preferred deity or the person of our choice –because the lad set the series alight when he entered five seasons ago in 2013. No matter what you may think of the boy wonder, which side of the fence you may come down on,orevenifyou’restill sat atop it, one cannot deny that Marquez gave the series a royal kick up the collective jacksie.

And nowin2017, nearly five seasons and three Moto GP world titles later,he’s still doing it. His impact on the series was impressive, and not just in the way he won races and titles. He made the rest of the pack seriously up their game, while more than filling the void left by the absent Casey Stoner.

He also brought some much-needed cut and thrust back into the racing, which had been mostly missing for afew years, to the series’ detriment, quite frankly. There had been far too much kissing and hugging going on in parcferme for far too long, in our opinion.

Then when youally that fact to his ‘have ago’ attitude and the insane level of skill he shows every weekend on the factory Honda, it’s easy to deduce that the kid is the real deal, the proper package, and everything Moto GP needs to remain popular while its perennial cash-cow edges sadly, yet inevitably, closer towards retirement.

We first spoke to Marcin person at Silverstone during201 3, and the kid was an absolute joy.Not only did he gleefully ignore a forever tutting and watch-tapping PR man (and in fact, extended our interview way beyond its agreed boundaries because he was having fun, much to MrPR’s chagrin and building rage…),but he was up for anything.
