The 2019 programme marked the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first recorded Africans in Jamestown, Virginia. It celebrated the resilience of victims of the transatlantic slave trade and those displaced from their homeland throughout North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. With events lined up throughout the year, a primary goal “was to position Ghana as a key travel destination for African Americans and the African diaspora,” according to The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
