CHILAVERT: EL PRESIDENTE?
The goalkeeping maverick is getting ready to rule in Paraguay
Back in 1998, goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert captained Paraguay to their first World Cup in 12 years. Now he wants to lead his nation once again – after declaring his intention to run for president.
During a 22-year career, the shot-stopper became iconic both in Paraguay and around the world, largely for his exploits at the other end of the field. Chilavert netted 67 goals in total, many from the penalty spot, some from brilliantly executed free-kicks.
