in Japan, Game Freak’s game is stupidly successful, and has become one of the biggest videogame franchises of all time. While the gameplay sticks relatively closely to the standard Japanese RPG template, what sets it apart is the ability to capture the enemies you fight in the wild and turn them into part of your team. The goal of trying to capture all 151 different Pokémon makes it frightfully addictive, and requires you to trade with other players to get version-exclusive monsters. In Japanese releases, » [Game Boy] Kadabra here needs the Link Cable – it won’t evolve into Alakazam until it’s traded. Shigeru is one of the default names suggested for your rival. The game has been remade as Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green on the GBA, and Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee on the Switch.
