I have to confess that in the truly early days of motherhood, I didn’t read a word. I barely knew if it was day or night and stringing a sentence together, let alone reading one, was beyond me. But, slowly, I built up a library of novels and memoirs that helped me survive then thrive in this new role. Some are perfect for dipping into when you can’t manage more than a page or two, some provide answers, while others hold up a mirror.
