SESSION SHENANIGANS
MITCH DALTON
The studio guitarist’s guide to happiness and personal fulfilment, as related by our resident session ace. This month: Last Century’s Model.
As my friend Dave at Essex Amp Repairs quipped on the first occasion that I availed myself of his services, “Cut me and I bleed Fender”. I must admit, I’m not too shabby in that regard myself. My collection of the eponymous all-tube amplifiers currently extends to two 70s silverface Champs, a reissue of the original 57 tweed item, a Super Champ (the Paul Rivera designed 80s classic), a Princeton Reverb reissue and two Fender Deluxe Reverbs, both stripped down and rebuilt as hand-wired copies of the 63 model. Of course, I fully admit to this Luddite predisposition and my antipathy to almost all guitar-based products based on design and technology post 1948.
