Few university students could blog their way to becoming a household name, least of all through their home cooking. But that’s what Ella Woodward (now Mills) did in 2012 when, studying at the University of St Andrews, she rose to fame through her eponymous Deliciously Ella blog. And no one was as surprised by her meteoric success as she was herself: ‘I had textbook middle child syndrome. While my three siblings were all very successful [to put this in context, Ella’s brother, Thomas, got a first from Oxford University], I drifted along. No one had any huge professional ambitions for me – least of all myself. My mother would say: “Ella will marry a rich man.”’
