Royal Marine becomes the Queen’s new equerry
An officer from the Royal Marines has been appointed the Queen’s new equerry in what has been called a “deeply significant” move.
Major Tom White, who takes up the role next month, is the first commando to hold the position. It is one of the most important roles in the royal household, as the officer will be in constant personal contact with the monarch, acting as her right-hand man and being her “eyes and ears” to help welcome guests at engagements.
