As lockdown set in and salons closed, many of us tried to be more skin savvy. But has extra time to focus on a skincare regime resulted in more flare-ups? Here, we look at the rise in stressed-out skin
As restrictions lift, one surprising effect of lockdown can still be seen – and felt – on our faces. Red patches, dryness and flaking sound familiar?
Sarah Carr, facialist and Liz Earle ambassador, has been bombarded with messages from clients about DIY mishaps over lockdown. “People have been trialling new skincare, as well as ‘cocktailing’ a range of products,” she says.
Consultant dermatologist Dr Emma Wedgeworth believes the issue stems from people overloading their complexion or using the wrong products for their skin type.
“People are using all sorts of ingredients and the increasing popularity of actives such as retinoids, AHA and BHAs has resulted in more skin sensitisation,” she says.
