Sued over Christmas trademark bid
Mariah Carey has ignited a legal battle after attempting to trademark the title “Queen of Christmas”. The singer, 53, filed the application in March 2021, prompting Elizabeth Chan, who released an album named The Queen of Christmas last year, to submit a declaration of opposition to the trademark. “I feel very strongly that no one person should hold onto anything around Christmas or monopolize it in the way that Mariah seeks to in perpetuity,” she said.
Darlene Love, famous for her Christmas tunes such as All Alone on Christmas, also spoke out, saying: “David Letterman declared me the Queen of Christmas 29 years ago…” Mariah’s hit single All I Want for Christmas Is You remains the bestselling holiday song by a female artist.
