ANNE HATHAWAY
Of all the roles she’s played, the one Anne Hathaway treasures most is that of “mom”. So she felt a huge sense of responsibility when she portrayed a character based on the real-life mother of her latest film’s director and screenwriter.
As to how she approached such a delicate situation, it was “very tenderly”, she says. “Being a mother and having a mother, I know how special that role is to one’s existence. I tried to be very sensitive when I was asking questions because you never want to presume within a relationship like that. You never want to take up too much room.
‘I’m a lot of different things at different moments. I’ve never just felt like I was one thing. I love being all things’
“At the same time, I needed to get information to play the character, so it was all about finding that balance,” continues the 39-year-old star, who has sons Jonathan, six, and Jack, two, with her husband of ten years, jewellery designer – and fellow actor – Adam Shulman.
